Philadelphia, Pa. – Following a breakout performance in the Wolfpack’s upset win over No. 8 Georgia Tech, Wolfpack Freshman running back Jayden “Duke” Scott has been named the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the week by the Maxwell Football Club, the organization announced Tuesday morning.
Scott, who was also named the AP National Player of the Week Runner-Up, powered the offense in his first career start with a season-high 196 rushing yards on 24 carries, averaging an impressive eight yards per attempt and scoring one touchdown. He added 11 yards in receptions to push his game total to 207 yards.
His career-long 69-yard rush against the Yellow Jackets set up another Pack score, putting NC State up double digits. Scott has 11 explosive rushes this season and two explosive touchdowns, including a 30-yard score against Georgia Tech.
Scott became the first NC State freshman RB to top 100 YDs since 2019 and recorded the most yards by an NC State player since Nyheim Hines had the same amount in 2017 against UNC. Scott ties Hines for the 11th most yards in a game in school history.
Each week during the 2025 season, the Maxwell Football Club will recognize an outstanding performance by a college freshman with the Shaun Alexander Freshman Player of the Week award. The Shaun Alexander Player of the Week will be recognized for overall performance on offense, defense, or special teams, and players selected do not have to be represented on the Shaun Alexander Award Hot 37 preseason watch list.
